Celebrate National Pet Wellness Month the Right Way
Share
October is National Pet Wellness Month, and the only true way to celebrate is to ensure your pet is getting the best care! Sponsored by the American Veterinary Medical Association, and celebrated since its inception in 2004, National Pet Wellness Month aims to help educate current and prospective pet owners about the steps necessary for maintaining a happy and healthy companion.
With more than 50 million dogs and 40 million cats currently domesticated in the United States, it is easy to see that our country loves pets. More than half of households in America have pets. With the exponential growth in pet ownership, general interest in improving our furry friend’s quality of life has piqued as well. Here are a few tips to get started on improving your pet’s total wellness this month:
Offer a quality diet. Your pet’s diet has a huge influence on their overall quality of life and well-being. Without quality veterinarian-approved foods, it is extremely difficult for your pet to maintain good health. Check out our blog for an array of articles covering the essentials for your pet’s diet.
Schedule routine veterinary care. We cannot emphasize routine care enough. Veterinarians are highly trained to recognize and treat health issues before they develop into more serious problems. Much like us, animals need checkups to ensure they are living healthy and happy. Unlike us, it is more difficult for an animal to communicate any pains or complications, which is where the vet comes in handy!
Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. In conjunction with a healthy diet, exercise is vital to a well-rounded pup or kitten. You should be aiming to exercise your pet at least three times a day, if not more. While dogs do great on a walk or jog, cats are a little easier on us to entertain. A toy or laser pointer will get that lazy cat moving around and feeling better in no time. Not to mention, exercise is important for an animal’s mental health!
